Lyndon B. Johnson

(1908-1973) The 36th president, who succeeded to presidency on  Kennedy's death.   As president secured passage of Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voting Rights Act of 1965.  Popularity declined as civil conflicts grew over Vietnam War; did not run for reelection.
